Hello, I am Helmut Fischer.

Photography is my great passion. My work centres on landscape and fine-art photography, with a particular fascination for the transformative power of light. Drawing on contrasts of colour, tone and form, I often use my camera to create painterly abstractions that hover between photography and painting. I am equally drawn to the luminous delicacy of high-key photography and the atmospheric drama of low-key imagery.
I create photographs that reward contemplation and invite the viewer to linger, to discover their own associations and to enter into conversations that reach far beyond the original subject.
As an avid rower, I also photograph my team during competitions and training sessions, capturing the energy, precision and fellowship of the sport. Throughout my photographic journey, I have worked with Nikon, Hasselblad and, most recently, Alpa cameras.

Nikon has been at the forefront of optical innovation for a long time. One of the lenses they created In 1991 was the Ai AF DC Nikkor 135mm F2S. DC stands for Defocus Control which allows for additional blurring in the fore or background and hence gives the photographer enhanced control over which areas should be softer. I have been shooting with Nikon cameras since I was 15. I was always interested in special purpose lenses and thus acquired my first perspective correction lens in the late eighties. Eventually, this 135mm followed. It was at the forefront of optical design and its all-metal body is just a pleasure to work with, but chromatic aberration can be an issue. The bokeh is out of this world.
